Stocks - Wylde Blend

Spring would not be complete without these deliciously spicy scented stocks.  Matthiola incana overwinter for me in the big tunnel or in little 9cm pots in the greenhouse to be planted out once the worst of winter is over.  

I have combined my top varieties for scent, tone and performance here in our Scottish climate.  You will have a selection of colours from pink to champagne ready to cut and plonk in a vase or, even better, gift to a loved one. 

The plants will be either singles or doubles, both beautiful!  You can plant these close, around 10cm apart and if there's two seedlings in the one block go straight ahead and plant it as is.  They are one and done so I always plant a bit more than I think I'll need.

The overwintered stocks bloom earlier than spring starts so miss out on the inevitable flea beetle attack that happens in late spring / early summer.  You also get longer stems on the overwintered plants so always worth the extra bit of coddling!
